The main mission of the R&D center at Sunndalsøra is to support the Hydro casthouse business with product development (alloy development) and production process development/optimization. The alloy development is often carried out in close cooperation with customers within a variety of industries; where we seek to tailor make the alloy properties to the customer specific needs. Recycling of aluminum becomes increasingly important for Hydro, and the R&D center is deeply involved in developing needed processes, products and technologies to enable this goal. The R&D center Sunndalsøra has a well-equipped laboratory that in addition to supporting R&D projects is involved in customer technical service, quality assurance and various production support tasks. In order to maintain and further develop key competence areas at our research centre, we are looking for young and talented research scientist. The candidate will be working with a group of very competent and experienced scientists in the field of Aluminium casthouse processes and product development/technical services in connection with marketing and sales of aluminium products. The position will report to manager R&D projects department. Area of responsibility •Carry out short and long term R&D projects/tasks •Assist program manager to plan yearly R&D project activities •Design and execute scientific research experiments •Perform material testing and characterisation •Write technical reports •Write scientific papers •Document and communicate results •Support activities towards casthouse operation optimisations and external customers Qualifications •M.Sc. or PhD in Materials Science, Physics, Physical or Process Metallurgy •Ability to work independently as well as in a team •Well organised and structured way of working •Language: Fluent in oral and written Norwegian and English. Additional languages is an asset •Able to give presentations in presence of a group of audience •Good communication skills •Energetic and result oriented Additional information The right candidate will, after some years at the R&D centre, have the possibility to develop into other positions such as production management or in a commercial direction.
