The 2030 green cruise experience” – where everything from leisure activities to the vessel itself, is green and healthy. Who: Summer of 2008 students within different disciplines will join the summer internship in DNV. The group will consist of 12 – 15 students, with one year left of their Master studies. DNV will through this project challenge the students’ creativity, knowledge, energy and ability to co-operate and produce results through an intensive summer period. What: The heading of the summer internship is “ The 2030 green cruise experience” – where everything from leisure activities to the vessel itself, is green and healthy. The purpose is to define an innovative cruise concept (ship design, operation, passenger experience concept) for 2030 that is truly environmentally friendly; propulsion system with no harmful emissions, no polluting discharges, no toxic antifouling paint, sustainable waste handling etc. Even environmental lifestyle onboard with environmental friendly food and various personal development activities to the passengers to make them even better friends of the earth. The project shall define the “2030 Cruise Concept”, and the various technologies and services that need to be put in place to achieve the “green and healthy” goal. The students could develop a new ship design, a new type of operation and a completely new lifestyle vacation concept, where people would cruise and enjoy life and at the same time leaving a minimum “footprint”. The student group shall have great deal of freedom to define the detailed content of the project, but it is expected that the following topics are to be covered: • 2030 scenario, what are the likely societal/socioeconomic scenarios in which the leisure industry is competing • Definition of the “Green Cruise Experience” target customers • What part of the world should be covered by this cruise experience • Leisure activities and entertainment - onboard and onshore focus on new experiences. • Green overall design of the vessel (actually the platform for accommodation and relocation) • Selection of size, shape, materials, transfer speed, energy consumption etc • Sustainable energy generation systems • Communication systems for operations as well as for passengers • Facilities for accommodation and leisure • Concept for safe and healthy food with minimum environmental footprint. When: The project starts June 23. and ends August 4. – six weeks. Members of the summer internship will present their work for Management in DNV. The students will be located at DNV mainoffice Høvik. In addition to the project owner there will be a DNV project team with participants from all business areas and DNV Research and Innovation. One of the students will work as project manager.
