Summer Trainee Technology Program

Do you want to spend your summer focusing on relevant technology issues which is part of FMC’s future? Practice real engineering in a creative environment? Use your competence, network and creativity? FMC presents the 2012 Summer Trainee Technology Program: Subsea Autonomous Production System (applicable for Arctic) The work will be organized as a project where all students have their own dedicated tasks, but shall in addition help each other when necessary, and also cooperate on a common group assignment. The project will develop a project plan which identifies important milestones for work and progress meetings will be held every week. A presentation of the work carried out during the summer is required at the end of the program. You will during the summer go through training in subsea technology to familiarize yourself with subsea technology and FMC. Working language is English, which means that all written materials including presentations must be made in English. In many meetings and discussions, English speaking people will be present. The 2012 summer project consists of the following challenges: Project management (1 x student) •Plan and lead the “system design group task” •Follow up the individual tasks with the aim to create synergies and efficient use of competence and network •Competence requirements: Project management in combination with relevant engineering (e.g. Subsea, Petroleum) Process design (2 x students) •Describe hydro carbon production system •Identify and categorize power generation conversion methods •Competence requirements: Petroleum engineering, power generation (e.g. thermodynamics, thermo electric) Intervention technology (2 x students) •Identify and categorize intervention methods (subsea operation perspective) •Conceptual design of autonomous methods (subsea operation perspective) •Competence requirements: Petroleum/subsea/mechanical Instrument/monitoring technology (2 x students) •Conceptual design of system, instruments and communication for autonomous operation •Wireless communication, power supply for instruments •Competence requirements: Instrument and monitoring/communication/subsea engineering Electro and power technology (2 x students) •Conceptual design of power generation systems •Power distribution, power storage, power generation, switch gear, connectors •Competence requirements: Electrical engineering Autonomous system model (1 x student) •Identify and categorize autonomous operations (cybernetics perspective) •Evaluate use of artificial intelligence, requirement to reliability and availability •Competence requirements: Cybernetics and subsea engineering (ROV and AUV) Business development (1 x student) •Freedom to Operate and IP strategy •Make an economic model for the system, evaluate the influence of autonomy •Competence requirements: Business development, contracts, economy System design (group task) •Use system engineering methods •Define requirements (Power, communication, flow rates, subsea storage of fluids, etc.) •Draft layout of field for autonomous operation For this exciting opportunity we are looking for 11 students within different branches of technology (see competence requirements for the different challenges above) who can demonstrate a good progress and results from their education. You can apply for the summer project if you have finished the third year of your studies this summer. You will be working in a team consisting of 11 students. You will have your own dedicated mentor based on the task you will be performing. We kick off with an obligatory start June 11th. The project runs for eight(+) weeks. The summer project is carried out at FMC’s office location in Kongsberg. For more information contact [email protected].
