Summer school 2013 - NBIM

The first summer school will take place in Oslo, 24-28 June. A significant fraction of Norway’s public wealth is invested in financial assets. An important practical question is how academic research in finance and economics can help fund managers to take informed decisions. Prof. William Goetzmann from Yale University will give lectures on challenges in fund management, exposing students to topics such as efficient markets theory and evidence, efficiency of active fund management and to leading research on asset pricing anomalies and asset pricing factors. The summer school will be complemented by lectures of faculty from universities in Norway, covering topics such as macroeconomic implications of sovereign wealth, the microstructure of financial markets, as well as presentations by representatives of NBIM. In addition to high quality lectures in financial economics the students will also get information about the practicalities of pursuing PhD studies in financial economics. A social program will provide excellent opportunities to meet with leading international scholars, local faculty and representatives of NBIM. Eligible students will normally have completed the first year of their master’s degree. Particularly talented students not fulfilling this requirement are also encouraged to apply. The NFI will cover travel and accommodation during the week-long summer school. For more information see the attachment.
