Graduate position - Research scientist, R&D Karmøy

The main mission of the R&D centre Karmøy is to support the Hydro casthouse business with product development (alloy development) and production process development/optimization. The alloy development is often carried out in close cooperation with customers within a variety of industries, where we seek to tailormake the alloy properties to the customer specific needs. Recycling of aluminum becomes increasingly important for Hydro, and the R&D center are deeply involved in developing needed processes, products and technologies to enable this goal. The sites have well equipped laboratories that in addition to supporting R&D projects are involved in customer technical service, quality assurance and various production support tasks. In order to maintain and further develop key competence areas at our research centre Karmøy, we are looking for a young and talented research scientist. The candidate will be working with a group of very competent and experienced scientists in the field of Aluminium casthouse processes and product development/technical services in connection with marketing and sales of aluminium products. The positions will report to R&D management at the sites. Area of responsibility •Customer technical service (CTS) tasks, in close cooperation with the market teams •New product qualifications / claims and complaints handling •Work in R&D projects •Support activities towards production facilities and customers •Design and execution of scientific research experiments •Perform material testing and characterisation, incl. FE-SEM operation •Document and communicate results Qualifications •M.Sc. or PhD in Materials Science, Physics, Physical or Process Metallurgy •Ability to work independently as well as in a team •Well organised and structured way of working •Language: Fluently oral and written English and Norwegian. Additional languages is an asset •Able to give presentations in presence of a group of audience •Good communication skills •Energetic and result oriented Additional informastion The right candidate will after some years in the R&D centre, have the possibility to develop into other positions such as production management or in a commercial direction.
