Graduate 2021 - Control System Engineer

Hydro Sunndal is the largest and most modern primary aluminium plant in Europe. Our main products are extrusion ingots and primary foundry alloys, used to a large extent by the car manufacturing industry. Hydro Sunndal is also a research and development hub, with extensive expertise in casthouse operations.  

We are continually improving our production processes and change greatly through elements such as predictive maintenance, big data, automatization, robotics, IT networks and infrastructure. This role is a great opportunity to contribute to this exciting transition, with a specific focus on automation, operational big data and analytics.  

Hydro Sunndal is a front-runner in Primary Metal’s Industry 4.0 transformation efforts. This effort will give exiting opportunities within technology development and implementation for many years forward. 

Our Graduate positions give considerable knowledge about the aluminium business and are essential for developing new leaders and professionals in Hydro. Key roles will typically require experience from different parts of the company, so a Graduate is expected to be flexible and mobile. For the right candidate, the position might give interesting possibilities both nationally and internationally.

Area of responsibility 

As part of the Hydro Sunndal plant unit you will contribute to implementing and running relevant elements of Industry 4.0 in production units. Some key tasks: 

  • Develop and implement systems for big data capture and analytics  
  • Aggregation of control signals/alarms
  • Develop analytic tools to optimize production and maintenance processes   
  • Plan, execute and lead projects   
  • Take part in optimization initiatives   
  • Communicate with stakeholders 

Qualifications 

  • Master’s degree within Mechanical Engineering, Cybernetics & Robotics, Applied Physics and Mathematics, Computer Science, Industrial Economics and Technology Management, Electronics Systems Design or Nanotechnology   
  • Maximum 2 years of work experience after graduation   
  • Good academic results   
  • Good communication and cooperation skills   
  • Engagement through student activities is an advantage   
  • Passion for big data and analytics combined with operations, maintenance and technology development    
  • Knowledge of relevant tools such as FMECA, RCM, Power BI and Python is an advantage    
  • Knowledge of control systems and smart sensors   
  • Fluency in English and Norwegian
