The Hydro Graduate Program - The starting point for your Hydro career
In Hydro we have focus on hiring and developing the workforce of tomorrow. Every year we have several Graduate positions, where we are looking for young professionals early in their careers. All positions are permanent, within different business units and areas of expertise, but all graduate positions will take part in the graduate program.

 

Graduate R&D Chemist - Porsgrunn
The Technology and Operational Support (TOS) unit is part of Hydro’s Aluminium Metal business area and has around 190 employees in Norway and Germany. The main task of TOS is to support commercial and operational units in improving Aluminium Metal’s profitability and sustainability in the short and medium term - while also having longer term technology development as a core activity

 

We are now looking for a skilled R&D Chemist to join our Technology Development department in TOS. In this department and position you will actively contribute to Hydro’s sustainability, profitability and improvement agenda, in which process optimization, technology development and technology implementation are of high importance. You will be part of a team that develops and supports a safe, efficient and optimal aluminium electrolysis cell technology for the future at Hydro's smelters in Norway and abroad. The candidate holding the position will contribute both to existing projects and take part in shaping future projects for TOS and Hydro.

 

Area of responsibility

  • The tasks will include project participation/management where his/her competence is needed
  • Projects may include problem definition followed by idea/concept development, evaluation, testing, design, qualification and implementation of both internally and externally developed technology solutions
  • Participate in projects particularly related to Hydro’s sustainability agenda with focus on waste-to-value and zero-CO2 solutions
  • Development of group competence within your field of expertise, promoting cooperation, active communication and knowledge sharing between relevant units in Hydro

 

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. or M.Sc. 
  • Chemistry competence relevant for Hydro’s sustainability agenda (e.g. inorganic chemistry, material science, nano-technology, environmental technology, physics, chemical engineering or similar/related)
  • Project management competence is beneficial
  • Common inorganic laboratory analysis techniques and analytical methods
  • Practical laboratory work

 

Personal Traits

  • Creative, innovative and curious with well-developed problem-solving skills. Structured, practical and systematic with attention to details. 
  • Capacity to work independently and under pressure, while sharing competence and issues with the team.
  • Work in teams and collaborate across organization both in R&D and directly towards plant management and plant operators. 
  • Good communication and cooperation skills. 
  • Fluent in English, orally and written. Norwegian oral skills are beneficial.
