Job description

We are looking for a Process/Systems Engineer who is eager to participate in different aspects of the engineering work necessary to design and standardize our electrolyser plants. This can range from creation and modifications of P&IDs, functional descriptions and technical documents to component sizing and selection, as well as refining and developing our products. You will support company safety, quality and regulatory approval functions.

Both senior and junior candidates are encouraged to apply for this position. Responsibilities and qualification requirements will be adjusted according to experience level, competence, and background.

You will be part of a rapidly growing international team of motivated people who are dedicated to make green hydrogen a competitive alternative to fossil fuels.

The possibility of some travelling, both domestically and abroad is to be expected.

 

Duties and responsibilities

Within your role, you will be expected to participate in the following tasks:

  • Create internal and external technical project documents such as design basis and technical reports.
  • Researching, designing, and developing of new equipment.
  • Review suppliers' and partners' documents (e.g. quotations, requirements, performance, and specifications).
  • Perform Steady state and dynamic flow simulations.
  • Develop PFDs, P&IDs, HMBs, and other system diagrams.
  • Evaluate, sizing, and selection of equipment such as water separators, pumps, heat exchangers, humidifiers, water purification, and gas purification packages.
  • Optimize balance of plant design with respect to cost and energy consumption.
  • Improving Hystar’s digital twins.
  • Ensuring compliance with both internal and external protocols, standards, and regulations.
  • Performing risk assessments and general design reviews of the equipment and processes being used (e.g. HAZOP, HAZID, LOPA).
  • Creation and improvement of system safety strategies (e.g. SIL, SIF).
  • Continuous contribution to improvement of internal technical guidelines.
  • Becoming an expert on PEM electrolyser systems, with an excellent understanding of the system and its interfacing environment.


In-depth knowledge of several of the following points will be beneficial:

  • Heat exchanger calculation
  • Humidification calculation
  • Water separator dimensioning
  • Process simulation experience
  • Design reviews and HAZOP
  • PFDs and PIDs
  • Process control
  • Writing functional descriptions
  • Writing and executing test procedures
  • CE requirements and product certification

 

Qualifications and requirements

  • Master of Science degree in engineering (mechanical, electrical, chemical, environment, industrial, or similar).
  • Capability of project work in international and multicultural environments.
  • Ability to work independently, accurately, and in a structured and systematic manner.
  • Preferably 3-5 years of experience in system or process engineering. Less experienced candidates are also encouraged to apply, trainings will be provided and responsibilities will be defined based on experience.
  • Experience in PEM electrolysis, fuel cells, or other hydrogen-related applications is preferred.
  • Team player who is willing to help others, with a passion for creating strong teams, building on individual strengths.
  • Proactive, open minded, motivated, and curious.
  • Proficient English skills. Other languages are an advantage.
