Summer Internship 2024 - Optimization and Analysis

Aneo is a renewable energy company with headquarters in Trondheim, established in 2022 by TrønderEnergi and HitecVision. Aneo invests heavily in wind power, solar power, electrification and energy efficiency in the Nordic region. Aneo aims to produce more renewable energy and develop new, unique products and services to promote further electrification and efficient utilization of renewable energy.

Power market analysis and optimal operation of assets plays a key role in achieving this goal due to the increasing complexity and volatility of the power markets, as well as faster trading deadlines. Therefore, Aneo has a team dedicated to developing and utilizing various software, algorithms and methods for forecasting, optimization, simulation, and control of energy infrastructure including wind turbines, hydropower plants and demand-side applications.

The Optimization and Analysis department (O&A) at Aneo is a cross-disciplinary team with strong backgrounds in power market theory, trading, optimal control and operations research. The team works closely with the AI group in Aneo to develop new solutions to better manage the company’s assets in fast-paced and complex market settings and improving and automating various market and scheduling operations as Aneo’s production portfolio grows larger. We are looking for students that have an interest in power markets and renewable energy production, a good understanding of data analysis and AI methods, and are comfortable working with Python.

As a summer intern, you will work on real-world projects in close collaboration with other students as well as fulltime employees.

All summer students at Aneo will participate in our summer student program, which includes introductions to the power industry and social events throughout the summer. Additionally, Aneo is a part of Workation in Trondheim, which offers a unique summer program for students hired at one of the 20 participating companies. This program is a great opportunity to better get to know the summer interns at Aneo, and those from other participating companies. Aneo and Workation will make sure you have an unforgettable summer in Trondheim!

The O&A summer student program:

The summer projects usually involve either performing a prestudy of a new problem or improving existing systems. All projects have high relevancy for the company.
You will work on your own project, but there will be other students with similar topics and some joint activities.
Each team will have a mentor from the O&A department with knowledge and experience useful to the project.

What we look for:

Someone with an interest in using optimization, data analysis and AI to solve problems in the energy industry.
Some programming experience. Preferably some knowledge of Python.
It is an advantage, but not a requirement, to have knowledge of power markets, renewable energy production or demand-side flexibility.
A team player, who contributes to a good working environment.
We mainly look for master students in their 2nd to 4th year, but we are open to considering candidates from other years with a high motivation and interest within renewables, optimization and/or AI.
